LIVESTOCK OPEN DIVISION
RULES AND REGULATIONS
BEEF CATTLE * SHEEP EXHIBIT

Entries Close October 1st: Show classifications for Angus, Brahman, Limousin, Brangus and Santa Gertrudis can be found in the Individual Breed Sections. Other breed shows can be provided if space is available and when a reasonable guarantee of breed competition entries has been received. In such cases, show supplements will be prepared.

  1. ENTRIES: All exhibitors must complete an entry form with their S/S or Tax I.D. They must include the name of the breeder, breed class, name of the animal, registration number, date of birth, sex, name and registration number of sire and dam. Tie space is limited. In the event the number of entries exceeds the barn capacity, entries will be accepted in the chronological order in which they were received. Tie space will not be assigned without receipt of a completed entry form. Exhibitors are expected to verify entry information at the Livestock Office as soon as possible after arrival. Subsutition of entries may be allowed if within the ownership of prior registered entries and approved by the Livestock Coordinator before opening of the Fair.  Owners or herdsmen in charge of cattle or sheep must have available certification or registration and/or transfers to assure proper entry. Junior Exhibitors may enter in the Open Show provided they meet all rules and regulations.
  2. There will be a stall fee of $6.00 per head for cattle. The stall fee must accompany the entry form. Stall fees are not intended to be used as a system for reserving space for farm exhibits or tack. Make checks payable to the Greater Jacksonville Fair Association. Refunds of stall fees will be made if notification of cancellation is received at least (5) days prior to the opening day of the Fair.
  3. RECEIVING: Exhibition animals will be received on Tuesday, October 28th, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. or Wednesday, October 29th, from 8:00 a.m. until noon.  Brangus, Brahman and Santa Gertrudis Show Cattle will be received on Sunday, November 2nd, from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.   Angus and Limousin Show Cattle will be received on Thursday, November 6th, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.   NOTE: Exhibition herds are secured by an invitation from the Fair Officials.
  4. The owner or herdsman is responsible for the care and management of his own animals. Each exhibit should have 1 person for every 15 head of livestock brought to the Fair. All animals must be halter broken and in suitable condition for showing and exhibition. Any animal found to have had its physical features altered or tampered with by surgery for the purposes of improving it's confirmation or appearance will be disqualified from the show.

RELEASE / REMOVAL DATES AND TIMES: Braham, Brangus and Santa Gertrudis Show Cattle will be released Wednesday, November 5th at 8:00 a.m.   Angus, Limousin and Exhibit Animals will be released Sunday, November 9th after 9:00 p.m. Animals staying overnight must be removed no later than 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 10th. Cattle staying overnight should be moved to tie-outs. Those requesting removal of their animals prior to the stated release date and time must get special permission by making a written request to the Show Superintendent and the Fair Officials prior to the opening of the Fair. Any animal removed without the above permissions of the Fair officials will forfeit all awards and premiums.

PREMIUMS / SHOWING: No exhibitor may receive more than two (2) premiums in a single class. Animals shown in-group classes must meet individual class regulations. The numerical system of judging will be used.

OPEN SHOW BEEF HERDSMAN AWARD

There is no other class of livestock, which requires such greater attention to neatness, cleanliness and sanitation, as does the exhibit of cattle. Realizing that the herdsman is directly responsible for the condition of his herd and the quarters it occupies, this award should be an incentive to the herdsman and should add greatly to the appearance of the barns. All persons in charge of herds shall be considered entrants in this contest.

The following score cards will serve as a basis for making decisions in this award program.
1. Condition and cleanliness of herd or flock 25 Points
2. Attractiveness of exhibit 20 Points
3. Neatness and cleanliness of herdsman or shepherd 15 Points
4. Courtesy of herdsman or shepherd 10 Points
5. Cleanliness of stalls 10 Points
6. Cleanliness of aisles 10 Points
7. General Cooperation 10 Points
